Summer Fair - more infomation

Following 100s of nominations from Sheffield Hallam University trainees, congratulations to our very own Ms Ali, one of the winners of the Sheffield Hallam University 2021/22 Inspirational Mentor Awards!

Diamond Award Celebration
This half term we enjoyed celebrating another group of students in Y8-Y11 who have received their Diamond and Double Diamond Awards! This event is all about recognizing students hard work, effort, talent and good deeds – as a school, we strive to ensure these never go unnoticed. In particular, the diamond awards recognize a select group of students who have been successful over a number of months and years. Students who have achieved 500 combined reward points received a diamond award. Students who have achieved a combined total of 1000 reward points receive a double diamond award. Families were able to watch the celebration, which was streamed live online.

Poetry wins Hearts and Minds
On 28 March, Meadowhead y7s took part in the local heat of prestigious national competition Poetry by Heart.
All y7 pupils learnt and recited a poem in a classroom heat, with the top performers going on to enter a schoolwide competition.
Lucy, Ruby and Kiran entered the classic competition where they learnt 2 poems to recite and Oliver and Harry were in the Freestyle category, performing self-penned poems.
The final was held in the school library with parents, grandparents and friends in attendance.  Pupils performed, reciting their poems from memory with passion, eloquence and clarity. All pupils gave superb performances and judges Miss Warnock, Miss Woodward and Ms Crowther were amazed at the talent displayed. Poems recited included Time by Valerie Bloom, Remember by Christina Rossetti and he wishes for the Cloths of Heaven by WB Yeats.
All pupils qualified for the national competition and Kiran was award the judge’s prize for his superlative recitation.
Y7 Science Club and Y8+STEM Club
Our Y7 Science Club have been very busy this half term with the arrival of their chicks!
The STEM Club have been making native wildflower seed bombs as a way to improve biodiversity in urbanised areas. Hopefully the flowers should begin to grow in the next couple of weeks which will create meadows that will be occupied by invertebrate species that have evolved to live in this sort of habitat. Meadows are especially important for pollinator species such as bee’s and butterflies.

Students explore STEM at the University of Sheffield
A group of Y9 and Y10 students went to the Exploring STEM event at the University of Sheffield. Pupils heard talks from ex-students who were now working in industry, then took part in an amazing exhibition with interactive stalls and demonstrations - well done to all!
Y10 #DitchTheDoubt at Sheffield Hallam University
We picked a beautiful day for the Y10 visit to Sheffield Hallam University as part of the HeppSY #DitchTheDoubt She Can project. The girls took part in a day-long Talk the Talk workshop at the end of which they prepared a presentation to share with the entire group. The students embraced the opportunity and spoke clearly, coherently and with passion about a subject that was important to them. Next month, the group will attend an evening to celebrate all they have achieved through this project.
Y10 Students visit Leeds Playhouse
Our Y10 students enjoyed a trip to see Lord of the Flies at the Leeds Playhouse. This gripping portrayal awed our Y10s who are excited to study the novel next year in Y11.
Y10 Mock Interviews

Y10 excelled themselves in their mock interviews this half term. They were a credit to the school, and the feedback we have received from the employers reflects this. Student feedback was also really positive, with students rating their positivity after the interview 4.46 out of 5, and the usefulness of the mock interviews 4.57 out of 5.
Laura from JCT600 said "Thank you so much – it was a real pleasure and I think I speak for my team when I say we all took a lot away from the day. You have some very impressive students and I sincerely hope that I get the chance to work with you again."
Georgia from Fast Stream, Civil Service said "I just wanted to reach out and say a huge thank you for allowing me to be part of your Y10 mock interview day on Wednesday. The students I interviewed blew me away with how engaged and professional they were."
Students said:

• ‘The person that interviewed me was so lovely, she explained the different scenarios clearly, answered all of my questions and I may consider working for the business in the future.’
• ‘The interviewer was encouraging and helped me develop my skills when having an interview as well as when writing a CV.’

Clegg Shield Final 🏆
Meadowhead 0-1 Tapton

Our congratulations go to Tapton who won 1-0. In a very tight game with very few chances, Tapton took the lead with a strike late on into the second half leaving Meadowhead a tough task.
EVERY Meadowhead student involved must be so proud of themselves. The effort levels of every player and the attitude and graciousness in defeat was something to be commended.
Congratulations to Tapton 🏆
Congratulations to one of our Y7 students who competed with her team 'Monarchy' at the National Cheerleading competition in Cardiff last weekend. The team came 1st out of 7 becoming National Champions!!!
Further congratulations to L., who has also been awarded a Scholarship from the club and gained a place on the international travelling team.
Next Gen Leaders - Grow Community Garden Opening
Next Gen Leaders Team, Grow had the grand opening of the school community garden. Although the wet weather meant our visitors from the community couldn't attend, it was good to get started with the planting and show staff the progress we have made.

Y12 Research Poster Project
Y12 students have been completing a research project during their form times and study periods and have designed and created posters to showcase their research in to a topic of their choice. Students showcased their research posters in their form groups to peers and their form tutor. With some amazing posters and unique research topics the job of judging the posters proved difficult. The top 3 posters were awarded with a voucher.
Y12 Students visit Woodseats Medical Centre
As part of Meadowhead School’s partnership with Woodseats Medical Centre, Y12 students spent the  morning with GPs, GP registrars and the practice nurse to find out more about working in primary care, how to get into these professions and how to demonstrate the qualities and skills needed for these roles. Many thanks to Dr Badham and Rebecca McQueen (SYREC Schools’ Engagement Coordinator) for setting this partnership up, and to Dr Newbould and the team who supported us in the workshop. The students enjoyed hearing about their career journeys and being challenged by some tough interview questions. We look forward to returning in July with some of our Y10 students.

Y13 biologists went to Sheffield Hallam University to do a lab based molecular biology masterclass.
