We are delighted to have raised £1097.86 for Assist Sheffield. Assist Sheffield works with people who are seeking sanctuary and who have been refused asylum. They provide accommodation, information and other support, relying on volunteers, grants and the generosity of the people of Sheffield and the surrounding area.
We are delighted to have raised £799.42 at our non uniform day for SAYiT. SAYiT works with young people aged 11-25 and professionals to make real lives better. They provide practical support to LGBQT+ young people, host a parent and carer group and their training helps organisations improve knowledge and address discrimination.

Meadowhead Christmas Fair
Thank you to everyone who joined us on the 8th December for our first ever Christmas Fair! With music from Abbey Lane Choir, Meadowhead Choir and Orchestra and the Rotherham Town Band, it really was a great way to get the festive season in full swing. We had stalls from local businesses, games ran by our Sixth Form Students and our Y7-Y9 Big Challenge teams got some selling experience in the Cafe Ole! Thank you again to our community for your wonderful support. You have helped us raise over £1000 for our chosen charities, St Luke's Hospice, Amnesty International and the Disasters Emergency Committee.

We were thrilled to receive over 100 presents from the Hallam FM Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign. Diamond Awards Dec 2022
On Thursday 15th December, students from Y8-Y11 received their Diamond and Double Diamond Awards. This event is all about recognizing students hard work, effort, talent and good deeds – as a school, we strive to ensure these never go unnoticed. In particular, the diamond awards recognize a select group of students who have been successful over a number of months and years. Students who have achieved 500 combined reward points received a diamond award. Students who have achieved a combined total of 1000 reward points receive a double diamond award. Families were able to watch the celebration, which was streamed live online.
BBC Share Your Career Story Tour visit Meadowhead!
We welcomed the BBC back to school for the BBC Share Your Career Story Tour. BBC presenter Jodie McCallum was joined on stage by artist, Andy Welland, and BBC Researcher/performer, Abby Thomas, who shared their career stories. Students heard about the subjects, skills and experiences that played a part in our panellists’ career journeys. Thanks to students in Y8, 9 and 10 for your many questions and huge thanks to the BBC team for sharing their stories. #BBCShareYourStory
Sixth Form Students Grace Food Bank
Staff and students in our Sixth Form have been donating food throughout December for Grace Food Bank. Two volunteers came to collect our donations on the last day of term. They were both very happy with the variety of products that our staff and students had filled the boxes with, and very grateful for our contributions to their cause.
Big congratulations to Lucy M-F and Ally B. Both competed in the Yorkshire trampoline competition this weekend. Lucy came 1st in the intermediate and Ally came 2nd in the elite! Both have qualified for the national competition in February! Excellent effort 🥇👍🏻👏🏻🤸‍♂️
Congratulations Charlotte, who has been selected to play for Team GB U18s for Roller Deby. Charlotte has secured her place with a gruelling round of selection games and will be competing in the World Cup in France in July. Congratulations Charlotte, we wish you all the very best of luck for the World Cup in July!
Paul Black, our Alternative Provision Coordinator, is involved in a veterans charity funded by Chesterfield FC. Paul was involved in organising a remembrance parade, which included Tri Service Veterans, members of the British Army Mercian Regiment, Royal Air Force, Sea and Marine Cadets, Derbyshire Fire Brigade and Fire Cadets. The Mercian Regiment mascot Ram was also paraded around the football grounds prior to the game. All veterans, soldiers and cadets marched onto the pitch and the last post was played prior to a minute's silence. Personnel enjoyed a meal in the executive box to watch the game, where Chesterfield won 2-0 against Borham Wood.
As a school community, we held a minute's silence today as a mark of respect.
We have lots of fiction/non-fiction history books in our library for students to explore and enjoy.

Acclaimed Sheffield-based Poet visits Meadowhead
On Tuesday 6th December, we were very lucky to be joined in school by acclaimed Sheffield-based poet Helen Mort. Helen has published a number of collections of poetry, fiction and non-fiction including Division Street, A Line Above the Sky: On Mountains and Motherhood and The Illustrated Woman. Helen has been shortlisted for and won a range of prizes for writing, is a senior lecturer in creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
Helen ran a workshop to celebrate the launch of the Royal Society of Literature’s new anthology, History is in the Making. The anthology is a collection of essays from 20 current RSL Fellows, each nominating a writer that they would like to have seen be made a Fellow in their lifetime. These writers did not conform to the literary expectations of their day, and the anthology recognises their contributions.
Students in Y9 and Y10, including members of our Creative Writing Club, really enjoyed the session – Helen talked about what she writes about, how she gets inspiration, and also the practical aspects of writing for a living. Students produced some fantastic writing and were very excited to hear their work read aloud by a published poet.
Well done to the students for their enthusiasm and participation and thanks again to Helen for being so generous with her time.
Student Cabinet attend South LAC Youth Conference
Earlier on in November, members of the Student Cabinet attended the South LAC Youth Conference at the Sheffield Town Hall.
Students took part in two workshops. The first workshop was around Local High Streets, with our students discussing what they would like their high streets in their local communities to look like and how they can be made more attractive to young people. The students' ideas will be fed back to the Business Sheffield Team who are currently looking at submitting bids.
The second workshop focused on community safety and reporting crime. For this workshop, students were joined by Inspector Rowland Wilson the local police inspector, Katie Dearnley from the Police and Crime Commissioners Office and Angela Greenwood from the Violence Reduction Unit. Students had the opportunity to discuss areas within their community they feel safe, areas they don’t feel safe and why, as well as whether they feel young people report crime, how they report it and what the barriers are.
Students, as always, were excellent ambassadors for the school
#YouthWorkWeek
At the start of November, our medicine applicants had the opportunity to do a mock multiple mini interview (MMI). Students had a series of short interviews, including a role play scenario and maths tasks. They were challenged to switch between different scenarios at a rapid pace. Students then had the opportunity to discuss their experiences with staff and each other and all commented that they now feel more prepared for their real MMIs in the future. Well done all!

We are always delighted to hear about how our alumni are getting on and welcome opportunities to reconnect.
